 Still Beauties... even while blowing their winter coats. These brothers, Nayehi and Kanati, are from Bear Country, USA in South Dakota.
 Beta female, Askina, sister of Nayehi and Kanati, was the 5th member of the pack. On this day she had a sore leg and stayed off to herself lying in a dark, shady corner. This pic was taken from a walkway above her. She had the beautiful gray coloring of Nayehi and Kanati. Askina died in October, 2000. The park employees found her dead early one morning when they came to work. "The ranger had seen her running around acting like nothing was wrong the previous evening. In talking to other facilities that have wolves, this is somewhat normal. They mask any illness, which is true for most predators." After a necropsy at the University of Tennessee, the cause of death is still unknown.
